Any one planning to attend a California State University campus next year, must take English (EPT) and Math (ELM) placement tests before starting. You need to take the tests now. Even if you have not heard from the campus of your choice, take the tests now!!!

1. YOU MAY BE EXEMPT IF YOU DID THE FOLLOWING.

ENGLISH:

• A score of 500 or above on the critical reading section of the College Board SAT Reasoning Test
• A score of 22 or above on the American College Testing (ACT) English Test
• A score of 3 or above on either the Language and Composition or Composition and Literature examination of the College Board Scholastic Advanced Placement Program
• Completion and transfer to CSU of the credits for a college course that satisfies the CSU General Education requirement in English Composition, provided such a course was completed with a grade of C or better
• A score of “Exempt” or “Ready for college-level English courses” on the CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) taken along with the English Language Arts California Standard Test in grade 11

MATH:

• A score of 550 or above on the mathematics section of the College Board SAT Reasoning Test
• A score of 550 or above on a College Board SAT Subject Test in Mathematics (level 1 or level 2)
• A score of 23 or above on the American College Testing (ACT) Mathematics Test
• A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Calculus AB or Calculus BC exam
• A score of 3 or above on the College Board Advanced Placement Statistics examination
• Completion and transfer to CSU of a college course that satisfies the requirement in Quantitative Reasoning, provided such a course was completed with a grade of C or better
• A score of “Exempt” or “Ready for college-level Mathematics courses” on the CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP), taken in grade 11 in conjunction with the CST in Summative High School Mathematics or Algebra II
• A score of “Conditionally ready for college-level Mathematics courses” or “Conditional” on the CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) taken in grade 11 along with the California Standards Test in Summative High School Mathematics or Algebra II, provided successful completion of a CSU-approved 12th grade math course that require Algebra II as a prerequisite.

2. You can take them at any CSU campus regardless of whether you are planning to attend that CSU campus. You only need to take the tests for th subjects for which you are not exempt. 3 You can only take the tests once. They are very important as they place you in your freshman English and math classes.

4. The tests are $18 per testand you must pay with a check of money order made out to ETS on the Saturday morning test date. Your entry ticket will provide more info about what to bring on the test date.

You need to fill out financial aid applications right now!!!. Applying is free!!! And you have to apply to qualify for grants, scholarships, and loans!!! Your information is protected!!! So apply!!!

Getmetocollege Freeadvice wants all seniors to make sure they have their FAFSA forms filled out and submitted. To receive any formal aid you need to fill this out. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Make sure you meet all Cal Grant deadlines. You have until March 2 for Cal Grants…fill them out now. Go speak with your counselors about them now if you haven’t already done so!!! This is money you can’t afford not to get. A grant is a gift and you don’t have to pay it back!!!

High school students should use their summers to advance their interests–academic, extracurricular, service, and work. Summers help you become better citizens of your community and world. The more competitive the college, the more the college expects you to be a member of your community. So find ways to continue with current interests, explore new ones, and begin to show your commitment, leadership, and initiative.

Colleges expect you to use your summers wisely. The older you get the more they expect you to show leadership and initiative. They want to see continuity–that you really spend time with your activities and grow with them.

Should you do things just for colleges: No, of course, not. But being active during the summer, makes you a better person and helps you experience things that you can’t do during the regular school year.
